This year, Atmosphere celebrates the 20th anniversary of their third album, God Loves Ugly. In honor of this landmark, we've created a special merch capsule we're calling GodLovesUgly Reprise: The Anniversary Collection.
Originally released in 2002, God Loves Ugly helped to cement Atmosphere’s foothold within the independent Hip-Hop scene, and at the forefront of an emerging subgenre called emo-rap. The album weaved Slug's tales of sorrow, frustration, and forgiveness together seamlessly with Ant's melancholic melodies, swelling with tension and angst over bone-cracking snares and taut bass lines. It was an audible lesson in processing pain without becoming a victim to it. The music, its sentiments, and of course its title, all instantly connected with fans and made a lasting impression.
Around the time of the album's release, Atmosphere had also rolled out a new logo in their marketing and merchandise. Designed by an artist named Chris Gliebe (aka Devi), the new "Hardcore" logo was instantly popular, and went on to become one of Atmosphere's best-selling and longest-lasting merch designs of all time.
In celebration of the album's 20th anniversary, we wanted to fuse these two fan-favorites together and create a form of rebirth, so we tapped Chris Gliebe once more to re-imagine the God Loves Ugly title to be stylized like the popular "Hardcore" logo, and he didn't disappoint! The special GodLovesUgly Reprise Anniversary Collection is available now, with a number of limited items, in order for fans to celebrate and cherish the monumental God Loves Ugly release and its ethos. All the beautiful people, be quiet!
